talent contest

On Sunday 2nd October 2011 we had the talent contest. We were all very excited. We met at watersmeet theatre at 2pm. watersmeet theatre was where the contest was. Our rehearsals were between 2.30 - 3.30pm. When we first got there every one else took their seats and I went on stage to practice my solo. First the tech men sorted out my microphone; I was using a hand mic. I sung my song I felt it went really well. All the girls and the staff said it sounded amazing!

After I had finished sorting out what I was going to do on stage I and the btec girls had our rehearsals. We all got on stage and just walked it through the first time. Then the man with head microphones called the five singers over and gave us the head mics to fit and put on. He also told us that they were each worth £2000!!!! This made us all worry! We ran our rehearsals with full energy and singing. It went really well but my mic fell off. So I readjusted it. Afterwards we sat down for a bit and supported some other acts.

this is us at rehearsals

After a little while we went off out for dinner. We all went to a Chinese restaurant. All the food was really nice and it was lovely. Also when I was there I found out I got in to rock challenge which made my day!! After we had eaten we took a slow stroll back to the theatre stopped at the shop to get clips and hairspray and arrived back. When we got there we sat down or about 20 Min's and watched a few more acts. Then we got our dresses room. I really liked this I felt so excited with all the mirrors and lights. First of all I got changed into my costume. Miss Dolan then did my eye makeup. It was blue, gold’s and purple and it was glittery. It looked amazing Miss Dolan did a very good job!! It matched the colour of my top which was purple. Miss Norris then curled my hair. It looked lovely until Miss Dolan back combed it which made it more wild but it still look really good for the show! Then put my foundation on, really pink blusher! And lots of mascara and eye liner. Finally Louise painted my nails a really nice bright green and we were all ready to go behind stage!
both these pictures are us about to go on stage

When we went up we had to stand really quite behind stage. My solo was the third act and our dance was the fifth act. When I went on I got my microphone as was ready to go! I sung my song really well I hit a couple of notes wrong but I did movements and I made myself proud. Then it came to the comments! This was the worst part of the evening so far! my comments were ok but I knew that what they were all wrong and I thought to myself it’s all or charity that's just ignore them and fun! Then I went on with the dance group named K.D.C! I put all my effort in. we all sung well I made no mistake and I know that my energy was as high as possible. the only bad bit was my £2000!mic fell off again so that effected my performance slightly due to me always trying to put to back on but it wasn't that bad. We were ready for the comments.
this was us on stage!

We all had really good un on stage out of breath but happy with ourselfs and ready or the comments! We were expecting of bad comments as a laugh but nothing like we did! We got told we were good but this one judge said we all didn’t put enough effort in which I think we did! Then this is where he ruined the whole evening! He said I quote 'the show started when the singing stopped' employing the singing wasn't very good. As this was only for charity we found this offensive and rude. Me and Myraim went and spoke to him at the break and told him how we felt. Due to every being upset many people left and the teachers wrote compliant letters. Despite from the comments we had a lovely time!!

We didn’t win but we rose allot of money or a good charity! We did get an apology which was fair and kind! However I have had many comments from the audience saying it was amazing and well done!

Over all I really enjoyed this day! It was so nice to spend time with every one! Thank you to miss Dolan and miss Norris!!
for the past two weeks we have been working on a perfoming arts piece for a charity talent contest. we sang and danced the song 'you can't stop the beat' from hairspray the musical. I help out at the charitie of micheal sobell house. my nan died there four years ago so I always try to raise money. when I found out they they were doing a talent show this year I sighned up for a solo and I sung the song 'defiying gravity'. then I thought to mention it to my peformings arts group because we could have fun and support the charity whilst showing the talent we have as a group.

every one agreed to doing the show and we got to work straight away. we all decided to sing and dance thats when we choose the song. we all danced but five of us sung aswell. the poeple who did where kelly, chloe s, katie, alice and me. we spent to long weeks working really hard to create an energetic dance and peformancs.we chorographed it are selfs.

we also sorted out costumes. we bought little ankle socks, hotpants, skirts and tops. we used white pumps from last years rock challange. befor friday I sold many tickets and raised alot of money which I was very happy with. we were all very excited about sunday.

I'm not so confident with dancing so I am glad this is more of a acting song. I am performing this on Tuesday! I'm slightly nervous but not to much! to reach the higher grades I am going to sing and act another from wicked on Tuesday! I'm loving every moment of musical theater!!!!

Bhangra is a type of dance and music. It originated from the Punjab region in south Asia. There are very specific moves in bhangra.
Bhangra is a lively type of dance and music, which is traditionally used to celebrate harvest. usually a woman would wear a Salwar Kameez (a dress) and the man a Punjabi suit with an amazing colourful turban.
The steps are mostly the same, the woman mirrors the man’s steps. Bhangra dance used to be only danced for harvest but nowadays it is danced during celebrations, parties and for fun.
Right from the beginning Bhangra has kept developing. Bhangra music is really fluent and uses tiny series of notes. Bhangra songs are low-pitched.
Bhangra music score

Here are some famous bhangra dances.
·        Jhumar, originally from Sandalbar, Punjab. It is an important part of Punjab folk heritage. This dance is very graceful and it’s based on a specific Jhumar rhythm. Dancers circle around a drum player while singing a soft chorus.
·        Someone performing the Luddi dance puts one hand behind his head and the other in front of his face, while moving his head and arms in a swaying motion. He typically wears a plain loose shirt and sways in a snake-like manner. Like a Jhumar dancer, the Luddi dancer moves around a dhol player.
·        Women have a different dance it is called the Giddha and it is much milder. The dancers show emotion in this dance.
  • Daankara is a dance of celebration. It is usually performed at weddings. There are two men each of them is holding colourful staves, they dance around each other in a circle while tapping their staves (sticks) together in rhythm with the drums.
  • Another dance which they form circles in is the Dhamal, they hold their arms high, shake their shoulders and heads, and yell and scream. Dhamal is a true folk dance which represents the heart of bhangra.
  • Like Daankara, Kikli features pairs of dancers, this time women. The dancers cross their arms, hold each other's hands, and whirl around singing folk songs. Occasionally, four girls join hands to perform this dance.

Bhangra dance back many years. The basic steps are related to farming, ploughing, sowing and harvesting. The bhangra season starts with baisakhi, the first day of the harvest season. The term bhangra was originally meant for a particular dance for the Seek and Muslim men of the Punjab rejoin of south Asia. In the mid 20th centaury bhangra expanded beyond the Punjab.

The word Bhangra  includes not just the dance but the vocal and instrumental parts of the performance. Themes of dance changed from agricultural to romantic and sometimes comic material.

Bhangra dance is seen as a positive identity for southern Asia.

pefromance night

use about to go on stage
On Friday the 18th we performed our bhangra dance to a live audience. We opened the second half. Also that night I was singing in choir and I did a solo performance which was singing and playing the piano. The song was, your song by Ellie Goulding, the reason I picked this song is because it suites my voice and it was easy to learn on the piano. I think this went well however I did make a couple of mistakes because I was nervous. In choir we sang 'rhythm of life' and 'say a little pray for you'. This went well I made no mistakes. I enjoyed performing both of these acts but I was still really nervous about the bhangra dance. When I went back up to music I quickly got changed did my bindi dot and make up, sorted out my hair and put on my scarf. Before I knew it was time to go on stage. I wasn’t on to the second part of the song so I was standing there really nervous but when I went on I smiled the whole time and put all my effort in to the dance. I did all the correct dance moves but I was early on one of them but I don’t think it put me off. I got a merit for that bhangra dance which made me really happy as I usually get a pass. I prefer bhangra to dv8. If I was to improve anything I would of stayed on my toes more because that’s what your meant to do in bhangra dance.

KT Tunstall gig

On Tuesday I went to go and see KT Tunstall. KT Tunstall is a singer/songwriter. I went with my mum, dad and sister. My granddad bought us the tickets for Christmas. We left at about 6pm and the doors opened at 7pm. the gig was at the hmv forum in London. We arrived at around 7.15pm. The queue went down the street for ages but it moved really fast and we were in the forum about 20 minutes later. The forum was an old theatre and it looked amazing. We had really good seats. They weren’t near the front but we could still see the stage really well. At about 8pm the support act came on. It was a Scottish man who was really funny. He had written some really good songs and I really enjoyed it but all I really wanted to see was KT Tunstall. She came on about 9pm and was on stage for about 1.30 hours. I really enjoyed it. I was singing along the whole time and dancing. My favourite song is 'her face is the map of the world' it is an upbeat, fun song from her old album. I like this song because the lyrics are really good, the tune is different and it’s a very catchy song. She is really good on stage and keeps the whole audients entertained and excited the whole time. When she finished people kept shouting her name and then she came back and did five songs at the end. When everyone started to leave I went to the gift shop but never bought anything as it was so busy. One the way home me and my sister where singing all her song all the way home and my dad and mum where getting really annoyed. On the way home we got fish and chips. We got back to the house about 11.30pm and went straight to bed. This was the best concert I had gone to and when she next goes on tour my and see her.

peformance dance

Last week we got put in to groups for our show called cabera. In my group there is Chloe, Katie, Kelly, Ellie and Chloe. We had to pick a theme and dance a story for it. Our group picked forbidden love. The story line is two young people who meet at a party and fall in love. However they are not allowed to be together because they have different religious. One family is a Christian family and one family are Hindus. The Christians are more street and the Hindus are contemporary. All bhangra story’s have happy endings. The type of moves we use are the basic bouncing step, pat the dog, screw the light bulb, in the oven and many more. Our performance was on Friday.

28th of march

today in performing arts we started a new dance. it was a contemporary dance but tomorrow we are linking it in with bhangra. the dance reflects the idea of a woman getting beat up is not in control of her body. there wasn't a specific count we had to be with it was a very free moving dance. our moves where flowing. my favorite bit is at the beginning where we all walk in. we use the hands in one bit because most woman when they are getting attacked only see the persons hand and not there face.

I have done some of the stuff you need for merit and higher like I have annotated my boards in detail and i have wrote my evaluation. I am really enjoying costume design.
